The state parks located around Lake Ray Roberts include Ray Roberts Lake State Park Isle du Bois Unit, Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch Unit, and Ray Roberts Lake State Park Jordan Unit. Which of the three start park locations is the best? The answer depends on the specific activity the visitor plans to participate in.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park Isle du Bois Unit

Of the three state park areas on the lake, the Isle du Bois Unit is the most popular and the most crowded. This unit has a stunning sandy swimming area, a boat dock, and plenty of room to fish. There is a nice-sized playground area, indoor restrooms, and showers.

This location is great for tent camping, and there is space for RVs. There are hiking, biking, and horse trails. Of the three units, this is the largest.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch Unit

Those who enjoy a quieter area and less of a crowd may want to visit the Johnson Branch Unit. This area also has a sandy beach area for swimming and a boat dock. This unit is smaller though, it still has indoor restrooms, and there are plenty of places to fish.

Guests can tent camp, rent RV spaces, hike, and bike at this unit. There are volleyball nets and covered picnic areas. Keep in mind that a person should arrive early for the best spots because this area is smaller.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park Jordan Unit

The Jordan Unit has restrooms and a boat ramp but no camping areas. If a person wants to park and launch their boat, this is the area to go to. The other two units have all of the bells and whistles, while this area is more basic with just the necessities.

In conclusion, any of the three areas are great. Keep in mind that only the first two allow camping. Decide what activities the group will want to participate in and use that information to choose which unit to visit.
